Subject: Israel and the Liberals

In Thomas J. Friedman's NY Times column (25 Jan 09), he alleges that diplomacy must force Israel and the Palestinians to become two separate political states because, "If Hamas continues to obtain and use longer- and longer-range rockets . . . .", things will get worse for Israel. That justification for legitimizing relations is absurd. If the Palestinians are permitted their own de jure state, it will be even easier to bring longer range rockets into play. The NYT and the Obama administration fail to recognize the obvious: Currently there is a de facto two-state system - Israel and their dependent neighbors (the ones not smart enough to figure out how to do anything themselves).

Sixty-Minutes, in a single blurb, got it right (25 Jan 09):

Israel has three options.

1) Democracy: However, in a few short years the Arabs will out number the Jews and, by popular vote, Israel will cease to exist.

2) Apartheid: (a minority rules the majority). It was the way of life in South Africa for generations. Democracy has thrived because the African blacks didn't wish to "push the whites into the sea".

3) Ethnic Cleansing: This self-preservation tactic could be the battle of good vs. evil as touted in the Bible.

Israel is the only under-dog the world loves to rail against: The unrealistic media is against them; the liberal media is against them; the Islamic children are taught to be against them; oil consuming countries, i.e. France, et al, are against them; and now we will see the American socialistic administration turn against them.

Islam is the modern day conqueror. If Israel falls, the Muslims will use that as proof that Allah is great thus inspiring them to continue their quest of forcing all infidels (especially the Christians and Jews) to convert to Islam or die.

1) Term limits shall apply to all elected positions.

3) The President and the Governor of each state shall have line-item veto powers.

4) Other than Social Security, there shall be no pension or retirement plans/programs or post-term health care for any bureaucratic, elected or appointed government-funded positions.

5) For every new law, edict, statute, decree, executive order . . . two shall be repealed.

6) Until America is out of debt - No more aid - including, but not limited to, weapons, food and medical supplies to any foreign entity.

The Homeland Security report, "Right Wing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment" (7 April 09), scares me. This government report interchanges the words terrorist and extremist and defines them as: "Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are . . . mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority . . . [and] may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration." In other words, I, a former police officer and current police author/trainer, am now labeled a terrorist because I support local and state government and I'm dedicated to the single issue of the 2nd Amendment. In still other words, our government doesn't trust any of us. Dear Fellow Gear Heads,

I've come across a book that is truly amazing, INFRASTRUCTURE, A Field Guide To The Industrial Landscape, by Brian Hayes, copyright 2005. I bought it thinking it would be some light-weight picture book, I could share with my g-kids. Wrong. this is a 500 page, 10 x 10 tomb that has more words than photos (most of which were taken by the author). Mr. Hayes, who took 15 years to put this together, is a senior writer for American Scientist.

Not only does he accurately and completely cover the subjects such as, Waterworks, Oil & Gas, Power Plants, Bridges & Tunnels, to name a few of the 13 chapters, but the work is very well written.

Excerpt from the Railroad chapter: "The trickiest part of designing an electric railway is getting the power from the stationary source onto the moving train. Dragging a cord is not an option. One answer is the catenary-and-pantograph system. The idea is to string up an overhead wire (the catenary), centered over the tracks at a height of 18 to 20 feet, and suck in the power through a sliding electrical contact (the pantograph). But for this arrangement to work reliably, the overhead wire has to be at a constant height all along the rail line, and that's hard to achieve. No matter how tightly a wire is stretched, it always sags somewhat between . . . ."

Subject: Red Lights

Recently, on a rainy day trip to the "big city," I noticed the difficulty of picking out the Red Traffic Control Lights from all the other signs, lights and distractions. It seems to me Red Traffic Control Lights should be made to pulse or flash. With the exception of these unblinking Traffic Lights, a flashing red light universally means stop:

Railroad warning lights,

4-way stop intersections

emergency vehicles

all display "flashing" Red Lights - why shouldn't the common Traffic Control Light?

I'm sure we've all witnessed (or experienced) a vehicle drive right through a Red Traffic Control Light without even slowing down. When I was a police officer, many times I heard the excuse, "I didn't see the [Red] light." How many accidents occur each year because of this non-attention getting steady red light?

The technology exists to economically retrofit Traffic Control Lights so that when the Red Light is displayed, it either flashes or pulses (strobe). It might be a life-saving change.

CHICAGO A federal appeals court Tuesday upheld ordinances barring the ownership of handguns in most cases in Chicago and suburban Oak Park, finding a Supreme Court ruling in a District of Columbia case doesn't apply.

Last year the Supreme Court struck down a District of Columbia handgun ban, ruling that the Second Amendment entitles people to keep handguns at home for self protection. The appeals panel agreed with U.S. District Judge Milton I. Subject: Sleep Aids: Results

To those who responded (even those with lame jokes), thanks. Unfortunetly, many just listed the medication they were taking as opposed to the requested "tricks and mind games" used. As to these medications, a number wrote to tell of benefits of the non-prescription, Melatonin:

"I use melatonin, 3mg per night.The rule of thumb is to take 1mg beginning at the age of 40 and increase 1mg every 10 years. It takes maybe 20 or 30 minutes to feel the relaxation and drift off to sleep. Melatonin is produced in the body and as we age it produces less and less, so this supplimentation helps. It is also reported to assist in fighting cancer. There are no known side effects. I've been using it for about 10 years."

"As you age, less and less is produced. Itis available in the vitamins & minerals section of Krogers or Walgreens. No prescription is needed. I'm 71 and it helps me sleep better & longer."

Below are some of the comments from those who stuck to the subject:

*    "I found that reading for a half hour or so before getting into bed is most beneficial."

*    "One thing I do is I usually go to bed at the same time every night between 9 and 10 PM and I get up between 5 and 6 AM Every morning. That very seldom varies. I think your body gets used to a rhythm or cycle of a sleep pattern. "

*    "When I turn on my side to go to sleep, I say my prayers and then 'talk' to my guardian angels."

For those who don't want to buy those, turn the TV on VERY LOW, so low that you have to be perfectly still to hear it. Concentrate on relaxing while listening, breathe deeply, relax.

4) Then the relaxing-only method: while breathing deeply (seems to work in every option!) concentrtae on relaxing every muscle in your body. Start with your feet - concentrtae on totally relaxing every muscle there starting with your toes. Then move up to your lower leg, then your knees, then your thighs, etc. When you get your face - if you get that far- concentrate on relaxing your jaw muscles, then yout mouth, etc. This does work, sometimes as a last resort.

5) Stretch before getting into bed to start the relaxation process. Stretch every muscle you can without hurting yourself. Then (here it is again!) breathe deeply and concentrate on relaxing.

That's what I got, and what I use every night. Not all the methods every night, but occasionally 2 or more."

*    "I try to make a story/movie in my head. Generally about something pleasant. I try to get into minutia type details and build a pleasant restful area that would be like a fantasy. Probably bores me to sleep."
*    "I always read in bed before going to sleep."

* "For me, what works best is to lie in bed on my back with no part of the body touching any other part. Relax, and concentrate on your toes, telling them over and over that they are relaxed while making yourself as limber as possible---then work your way up to the heels, the ankles, and so on. Do not think about anything else--just concentrate on relaxing those areas. I've never made it past my hips."

* "Best method I've found is to recite the words to a favorite song."

* "I start on back, just relaxing, then turn to my right side for a few minutes and finally to my left side. Repeat if necessary."

Subject: Reality Check

Time for another reality check:

1)    With budget cuts front and center, many communities are looking at two options:

    a) Place the obligation on the public to directly fund certain functions by use of the ballot - where the voters decide. This way politicians won't get the blame if the money isn't there. Libraries and fire departments are prime victims of this scam.

    b) Making cuts and layoffs on highly visible government departments. Here, instead of cutting white-collar political appointees and unseen bureaucrats the governments lay-off or reduce swimming pool staff, park personnel, trash collectors, police patrols, firefighters, EMTs . . . .

SOLUTION: Smaller government. Education, police and other necessities are possible with a significant reduction in non-essential services/studies/bureaucracies.

2)     There seems to be a lot of auto insurance ads on TV lately promising lower premiums. If they lower premiums, they have to make it up in reducing claims. If your agent is employed by the insurance company, his incentive is to reduce/dishonor as many claims a he can get away with. Whereas if you contract through an independent agent his/her duty is to you. Thus if you have a claim, the independent agent is truly "on your side" whereas the company agent represents the company.

SOLUTION: Pay attention; you get what you pay for.

3)     As state budgets get crunched, gambling comes up again as a method of raising funds. The problem is: Funds from this source don't increase funding to the targeted activity. For example: The state promises all money received from the new gambling/lottery/tax shall go toward "education." What the state doesn't tell is that they will reduce general funds to the "education" account by the exact amount of the new income. In other words, if the state had been spending - from the general fund - $5 billion on education and the new gambling/lottery/tax revenue produces $2 billion, the state will stop transferring $2 billion from the general fund to the "education" account. In still other words, this new $2 billion will indirectly go to the general fund where politicians can use it for what ever they please. Final word: This form of funding will never increase funding to a targeted activity - only replace funds from the general fund while relieving politicians of any responsibility by placing it squarely on the voter.

    SOLUTION: See Solution to #1 above.

4)    Health Care, a la socialized medicine. The main problem is not the cost, but government (monopoly) refusing to treat life-style choices that result in medical issues. For example: If you smoke and get cancer, the government health care system will not pay to treat you (this is already happening in England where they've had socialized medicine for years). If they can refuse treatment for smokers, they can refuse to cover other life-style induced medical needs such as: over-eating, alcohol related illness, accidents from non-professional sporting injuries (skiing, swimming, boating, fishing, football, basketball etc.), etc., etc. Of course the same government that outlaws suicide and assisted suicide will soon refuse treatment due to old age . . . and guess who decides the age?

    SOLUTION: Eliminate taxpayer paid health care and retirement funding for government workers and elected officials - they should have to sign up for private HC and SS like the rest of us. No where in our Constitution is it mandated to provide cradle to the grave everything for everyone - especially politicians and bureaucrats.

We are in the midst of a class war. No, I don't mean black vs. white, rich vs. poor, Judeo-Christians vs. nonJudeo-Christians, police vs. civilians or even the industrio-military complex vs. everyone else. Though those "wars" are significant they pale in comparison to the impact the "real" war:

Politicians and Bureaucrats

America and Americans

Politicians and Bureaucrats are our biggest threat because:

1) The P&Bs have the power to alter the course of the other "wars".

2) They have exploited their powers by - just to mention a few - granting themselves extensive vacations, junkets and a retirement program that greatly exceeds the Social Security the rest of us commoners receive.

3) Now, these self-empowered controllers are poised to force upon us a system that subjects us commoners to their definition of health care - WHILE EXEMPTING THEMSELVES.

SOLUTION: We need a Conflict-of-Interest amendment to say:

Compensation for elected and appointed officials shall be subject to a vote of the people.
Only those not directly or indirectly employed by the government shall be allowed to cast a vote.

Though the once great Enquirer had plenty of coverage and editorials about the health care issue, the paper failed to raise one significant question: If the Obama health plan is so good, how come he doesn't include the Presidency and the Congress in it or allow us commoners to subscribe to their plan?

Now, the little man's voice can no longer be raised to the big shouter; the ordinary man is refused a voice against the common government. Shame.

Subject: Latent Meanings

Military strategy is hidden in latent meanings.

Recently, conservative columnist and master of the two-dollar word, George Will, has turned around and now champions pulling all our troops out of Iraq. How can this be?

First a little history: Immediately after 9/11, Bush said, "We can fight them over there or we can fight them over here." The "them" is, our enemy, the Islamic Muslims. WMD, democracy and get-rid-of-the-despot were all prima facie reasons - the latent explanation why we started the war in Iraq was to keep the enemy so busy fighting our trained troops over there, they wouldn't have the resources to bring the war to our shores.

Obama, realizing the Bush plan had been working for eight years, needed something to appease his followers and thus he promised to remove the troops from of Iraq. Once in office, he began pulling the troops while escalating the war in Afghanistan - on the pretext of get-the-Taliban (or whatever name the Islamics are using).

It doesn't require a lot of extrapolation (that’s a two-dollar word George Will said I could use) to see that by having a national columnist tout the get-out-of-Iraq mantra, we are saying: "okay you win, we are leaving your country." Of course, at the same time we ramp up in Afghanistan so we can continue to snooker them into fighting us over there - instead of over here! In other words, they think they forced us out of Iraq and thus if they continue the same campaign in Afghanistan they can toss us out of there also. And, maybe in six or eight years of keeping the war away from America we can do it again in the country of ????

Tonight at dusk (two minutes before 8:00 p.m. 23 Sep 09), I stepped outside to empty the dehumidifier bucket startling two deer on the near side of the lake. I walked about ten yards into the grass, and while pouring the water, I looked up to see a dark shape across the lake (about 100 yards). It seemed too dark and low to the ground to be a deer and far too big to be a dog. As I started back toward the house, this dark shape began to move laterally away. It moved like a bear - slow and lumbering. There is no question in my mind this was a Black Bear. By the time I got my field glasses the bear was gone. Cool!! CK

Subject: Supreme Court/2nd Amendment

The City of Chicago is saying, contrary to the 2nd Amendment and the U.S. Supreme Court, they have the right to ban guns in their city. Therefore, if the Supreme Court agrees with them, they (and all other cities/states) will have the right to ban speach, religion or any of the other inherent and constitutional laws.

It amazes me that people never really listened to Obama. He has never hidden his agenda. My notion is that he is filled with hatred, particularly for this country, for whites, and Jews.
I am trained in and practice hypnosis...it is my observation that he has a large segment of the population in a trance...when you listen to his words, and particularly his cadence of his speeches, he has a very hypnotic style.
The similarities to Hitler are really scary...not calling him a Hitler, just the style is similar.

The observations of hypnotist Dan Robertson seemed to have touched a nerve as I got quite a few responses, including his additional comments. As a retired private detective and as a law enforcement trainer, I have always been of the school of reading people by their body language and what they don't say. Mr. Obama, to me, does not come across as forthright.

Excerpts from responses (the link with Dr. Dahlman's comments is most interesting):

One of the "truths" about hypnosis is that all hypnosis is self hypnosis. We go into our own trances, and if someone does not want to go into trance, they won't. The difference is when you don't know that someone is putting you into a trance, (covert hypnosis) as I believe Obama is doing. Dan R.

What a spin! Generalizing that none of us listen to (or hear) President Obama. I "hear" something VERY different than your friend. His Notion and his observation are what scare me! D.

His hypnosis comment is interesting as there has been quite a bit of discussion about Obama’s technique in giving speeches...the use of very specific phrases and his cadence. Experts at a technique called NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) have written long articles analyzing Obama’s use of the techniques they teach. The term "Be Safe" or "Stay Safe," as a closing comment or sign-off, has become ubiquitous. Officers use it among themselves, trainers finalize sessions with it and police columnist end their writings with this same line. Not that this is wrong or not good. To the contrary, looking out for the well being of fellow officers is one of the requisites of being a police officer.

Wishing one to be safe can also apply to other professions as well. We surely hope all firefighters, truck drivers and pilots conduct their details in a safe manner. There are very few livelihoods where "safe" is secondary to the profession. Law enforcement is one of those where ethical being trumps safety. Police officers, by their every nature, are charged with not only putting themselves in harms way for the physical protection of society, but must be the stalwart, the guiding beacon of honesty and integrity - the last line of defense against violence as well and moral decay. Should an officer lose his or her moral compass, all who witness - or learn - of his lack of ethics, will begin the break down of society.

The story has often been told of the Jewish boy who is punished for using the dairy towel to dry the non-dairy dishes. When he questions his father about such an archaic law, the elder explains that the dietary laws have always been in effect and if you break one law and allow it to go unpunished, all of society begins to break down. It is difficult to argue with this reasoning as the Jews have been around for almost 6000 years.

We have often heard the line, when relating to American police officers, "our country's last line of defense." This has usually been in reference to physically standing guard against enemies intent on committing violence. A truer meaning has not been tendered. But, seldom espoused is the underlying definition of the American police officer - he and she stand for the epitome of civilized society. America's very existence depends upon the rigid blue line never wavering in the face of outrageous criminal conduct, civil riots or political trickery run amok.

However, when it comes to wishing the best for our guardians of the future, there might be a better term we can use: "Stay Ethical." Here, the speaker is not only acknowledging the audience is already ethical, but is encouraging/reminding them to continue to place ethics in the forefront of their world. USA police officers are the envy of the world and it's not because they are safe. It is due to their professionalism, a qualification that generates, exudes and is based on a high ethical and moral standard.

Ethics - ethical behavior - is defined as a set, or system of, moral values and principles that are based on honesty and integrity and have been accepted as professional standards. To a cop that means, no lying, no cheating, no stealing - no exceptions, no excuses.

It is surely every LEO's daily practice to live safely, to protect and serve, to stand beside and back-up fellow officers and . . . to always do the right thing. Safety is mostly a matter of practicing rules of common sense. There is little temptation to violate safety procedures. Not so, ethical matters.

Temptations abound to subvert those of power to commit lapses in discretion for the gains of favor.

Police officers are in the business of ethical behavior. This is their stock-in-trade, forte', signature, persona, identification and what differentiates them from other professions. When one police officer violates this trust, this code of honesty, all are tarnished. Adherence to, or practice of, any voids-of-integrity is counter to the code of ethics that is part of each officer's sworn duty - his existence for being.

Law enforcement trainers find it most difficult to teach common sense, likewise ethical behavior. All LEO instructors can and should set the moral example while always being on the lookout for those badge wearers who might be subject to temptations.

Next time you sign-off with a fellow officer, consider acknowledging the exclusivity that this LEO is an honest, trustworthy person and that you wish him/her to remain so.

Subject: Slanted News?

I watch ABC Evening news. I selected Charlie Gibson because he gives a more balanced report and was not afraid to criticize a Democrat administration. Until Tom Brokaw retired (legitimately), I watched him for the same reasons.

Brian Williams, Katie Couric, Peter Jennings, Dan Rather all tend/tended to lean to the left. Now comes the announcement that Diane Sawyer is replacing Charlie. There have been no claims that ratings are slipping and, after only three years as anchor, Mr. Gibson seems far too young to retire (http://abcnews.go.com/WN/charles-gibson-retires-diane-sawyer-replace-gibson-abc-news/story?id=8471429).

Since that announcement, I have noticed Mr. Gibson's distinct shift away from faulting anything Obama or his administration says or does. I find this most troublesome.

WHAT HE DIDN'T SAY:

Obama refuses to do what every President before him has done - identify the enemy. In WWII no one hesitated to label a Jap a Jap or a Nazi a Nazis. Back then, if a German citizen didn't repudiate the Nazis, he was the enemy.

Okay, so BO called them extremists. But there are a whole lot of "extremists" such as global warming/cooling extremists, animal rights extremists, pro/anti-abortion extremists etc., etc.. Our enemy - the people who have sworn to convert or kill us - are Muslims. Today, after every terrorist attack (such as the Ft. Hood incident) a Muslim spokesperson will always issue a carefully worded statement deploring violence (a lie) - but never diss the person or the person's stead as a Muslim. Any Afghanistani/Iraqi/Pakistani/Iranian who does not denounce those who preach the convert-or-kill pogroms of the Koran are the enemy. Period.

WHAT HE DID SAY:

Obama made it very clear that he is perpetuating the same (successful) Bush strategy: To keep Americans safe "we can fight them over there, or we can fight them over here."? In other words, and contrary to BO's promise to bring the troops home or his so-called exit strategy,"We must keep the pressure on al Qaeda" by fighting over-there for the foreseeable future.

" I make this decision because I am convinced that our security is at stake in Afghanistan and Pakistan. This is the epicenter of the violent extremism practiced by al Qaeda. It is from here that we were attacked on 9/11, and it is from here that new attacks are being plotted as I speak. This is no idle danger; no hypothetical threat. In the last few months alone, we have apprehended extremists within our borders who were sent here from the border region of Afghanistan and Pakistan to commit new acts of terror. This danger will only grow if the region slides backwards, and al Qaeda can operate with impunity. Solution: #1 We need an exit strategy also: Get the Muslims out of America. What? You say! Violate their 1st Amendment rights? The right to hide behind a mosque in order to support a religion that openly encourages a convert-or-kill mentality is not what the First Amendment is all about.

Solution #2 Keep fightin' 'em over-there.

Subject: House Licence

It seems the recently passed Cap and Trade Bill (H.R. 2454, passed by the House of Representatives and being considered by the Senate) includes provisions that require home owners to secure a LICENSE FOR THEIR HOME before being allowed to sell.

One year after enactment of the Cap and Trade Act, you won't be able to sell your home unless you retrofit it to comply with the energy and water efficiency standards of this Act. Guess who defines "standards"? You got it, non-elected bureaucrats. In other words, if your single-family dwelling doesn't meet current (can change with the wind or a whim) energy efficiency standards, then you won't be issued a license (called a Label in the Act). Without a license (must be posted in a conspicuous place) you won't be allowed to sell the property. The Act does not say this is a permanent license. Thus, home owners may be required, after the compulsory inspection, to secure a periodic (yearly?) renewal - with, of course, an inspection fee.
